21. $10 says PVRWire becomes EngadgetPVR just like HDBeat became EngadgetHD a few months ago. I doubt AOL would just end a blog that must have a very low overhead and quite a few readers. I think they are much more likely planning to rebrand PVRWire.

Over on Jason Calacanis' site, he implies AOL blogs need a million monthly page views for it to be worthwhile. PVRWire is one of several which are being shut down at the end of the month.

The truth of many blogs is that a huge percentage of traffic comes from search engines. Divester, PVRWire, etc have amassed a great deal of content which will continue to make AOL a little money and drive traffic to other sites after they've been "shut down" - yet they will have no ongoing monetary outlay for talent/writing and no management overhead.

I think the lesson is long-tail, niche blogs may have a hard time being justified and surviving in a corporate environment.

I'll miss reading PVRWire and the opportunities I've had to collaborate and contribute. Since Chris, Brad, Matt, and JJ joined Martin last summer the writers have done a great job expanding coverage and quadrupling monthly page views.

25. Hi Guys - I just wanted to echo Chris' sentiments. Being a writer for PVR Wire for the past little while has been a real thrill. There's nothing like seeing something you wrote show up all over the web and on sites like Google News.

26. Yesterday I read about this happening to Divester and now today PVR Wire. This just sucks. I also notice that DigitalMusic Weblog has not been updated in a week, but no announcement. What about AdJab, is that going too.

I can't wait to find out where ya'll go. I might have to rethink all of weblogs blogs if they are going to start disappearing.

29. Wow, this is aweful. PVRWire is some of the absolute best coverage of the convergence of linear TV, on-demand viewing, and the technological "glue" that makes it all possible.

Have you thought about a PVRWire presence at the NAB show in Vegas this April?

30. PVR will become a world phenomenon within the next one year because of presence of Media center in almost all PCs that are sold from now on [Because of Vista].

It is a very poor decision to retire this blog at this time.

32. I just wanted to say we'll miss our readers at least as much as you miss us. One of the most exciting part of every day for the last half year has been logging on to see who has left comments on my posts, telling me when I'm right on the money, far off mark, or that my post contains a major typo.

It's also been great reading, and being read by other bloggers, including those behind All PVR, BYOPVR, DVR Playground, eHomeUpgrade, EngadgetHD, FloppyHead, Missing Remote, TiVo Blog, TiVo Lovers, Zatz Not Funny, and sites by Ian Dixon, Davis Freeberg and Chris Lanier.

I guarantee you that everyone writing for PVR Wire will continue to push the limits of PVR software and hardware in their personal lives, and I get the feeling that no matter where we each go from here, you'll be hearing from us again in one form or another.

33. I am attempting to piece together a story on the closing of several webloginc blogs. With many people now considering blogging as a profession, I think stories of real-life experience would be valuable.
