Back in December reports of problems with DirecTiVos began to appear explaining that the PVRs were being erratic in their ability to record shows. The PVRs would often fail to record shows altogether and mysteriously delete some recorded programs. DirecTV then said that it had fixed the problem but DirecTiVo users still continued to have the same problems. Now DirecTV spokesperson Robert Mercer told TVPredictions.com yesterday that "a reboot will clean it up and the unit will start recording again."
So the age old trick of "turning it off and on" should hopefully put your DirecTiVo back on track.

1. mmm...no. A reboot did not work. In fact, 6 reboots did not work.
A kind technician informed me that a "small percentage" of users (like me) experiencing this problem would have to completely erase everything off the unit and start over. I guess this must also reformat the hard drive as it took 3 hours to complete (message says it should only take "up to one hour"). Despite the incredible annoyance at the inconvenience, I was pleasantly surprised at how much faster my unit is now. It is now much faster than before the problems started. One word of advice, write down your shows from the season pass priority list. My wife wrote down the shows that were currently available to be watched but missed about ten shows because they were not in season.
