DirecTV to expand its line-up of HDTV channels

2006 was not a good year for DirecTV when it came to High Definition TV. Its HD PVR is often considered inferior and buggy and its HD service has been criticized for not being genuine HD quality and has been given the nickname "HD Lite".

Well at least DirecTV is starting 2007 off in the right way by adding 100 national HD channels to its HDTV line-up. The channels include:

A&E
National Geographic
Bravo
NFL Network
Cartoon Network
SciFi Channel
CNN
Speed
Food Network
TBS
FX
The History Channel
HGTV
The Weather Channel
MTV
USA Network

Currently DirecTV has only 9 national HD channels, about 20 premium HD channels and about 20 regional sports channels so this new line-up of HD national channels will be well appreciated by all those HD subscribers. Now all DirecTV now need is a decent HD PVR to watch and record them with.

1. I am sorry that you hate the HR20 so much but mine has worked flawlessly from the start. Your disdain of it is really starting to overtake all of your DirecTV posts though...

2. Yep mine works great too, at least in terms of picture quality. I had problems with jitters on the H20 receiver but the DVR has performed great.

The software, on the other hand, is a solid "D" compared with my original TiVO or the DirecTV version I got later. I can't get it to buy and record a PPV event, which was brain-dead simple before.

3. I can atest to the HR20 problems. I have been a TiVo users since the year it came out. I had an HR10-250 with DirecTV and it suddenly stopped making daily calls. They told me it was broken and they'd send a replacement. I was surprised to see an HR20. I was told I had no choice so, I installed it and was immediately hit with every type of software bug possible (box freezing at random; not saving any settings for recordings; channel lists not scrolling right, etc., etc. I spent 2 hours with support who did software updates and formats, etc. and ended up seind me a new one. I got my new one today and it does the same thing as the other one. So, the problem is LARGER than just my box. I will give it a week and consider switching services. It is that serious and annoying of a problem, and I've been a customer since before they acquired PrimeStar...
