I have just found a piece of software that claims to allow you to stream most videos from your PC to an unhacked TiVo over a home network connection.The software is called pyTiVo and according to the web page where the software is available from it uses the HMO server protocol and will try to guess the aspect ratio of your video and try to pad it as necessary.
However, it will not transcode an mpeg that is supported by your TiVo. Details on which video formats are supported have not been given.
If this software works well it effectively makes TiVo a media extender, which is something I think TiVo should be looking to do for real.








1. Sounds like a neat use for a TiVo - the only thing I don't like is the name. I'm a big fan of Python, but this needs a much more descriptive name with meaning, because the app itself has nothing to do with Python besides being written in it.
