Brad has just let us know that Hitachi has just announced the new Deskstar 7K1000 1TB hard disk which will go for $399 when it is released early this year. This comes at the same time as Seagate has announced its very own 3.5 inch 1TB drive. When it comes down to what hard drive will be best for your PVR I would place money on the Seagate drive.
Seagate released its DB35 750GB hard disks last year which were designed for the PVR environment and are currently favoured by WeaKnees as a reliable storage upgrade for PVRs.
It is likely that the new Seagate DB35 range, or a new similar range, will have 1TB capacities added to the line-up.
And if you thought that a 1TB hard drive was beefy wait until the Seagate 300TB drive that is supposed to be available by 2010.

1. Having two of them doesn’t really make them more dependable. It just means you spent the money to have a plan B. I agree, there is no reason for me to put all my data in one basket that big when there is a possibility for things to go wrong. I’m perfectly content having it spread across multiple 250Gb drives.
