Engadget's got the scoop on what looks like a whole new class of computers coming from HP and AMD. Well, maybe not a new class so much as one taking advantage of a whole bunch of existing technologies like Media Center functions and touchscreen support.
The HP IQ770 "Crossfire" will feature a 19-inch touchscreen display, an AMD turion 64 X2 dual core TL-52 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive. But wait, there's more. You get an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card, integrated FM and ATSC tuners, a DVD±RW / DVD-RAM burner, and a Pocket Media Drive bay. Whew. On top of that, there's 5.1 digital audio out, IR out, a mini-VGA output and a variety of inputs.
Oh yeah, and because this machine's designed to do everything, you also get an integrated 1.3 megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, a wireless keyboard, and a stylus. It could be a case of jack of all trades, master of none. The media center functions are nice, but with a 19-inch screen, this seems too large to be a touchscreen display for a living room TV and stereo set, but too small to be a standalone TV. Still, I like the direction this PC is taking things.
It's due out January 30th, the same day Windows Vista launches, and will probably set you back about $1800 to $1900.
