Video downloading is at a very interesting point with a number of big name and new name companies trying to carve their way into this new niche.Unfortunately this new industry is backed into a corner where download prices are set to be overpriced and the videos themselves are jam packed with DRM. This is mainly to keep offline retailers in a good position for continuing strong sales.
One new Australian based company has tried to overcome the issue of DRM and open up how you can use your downloaded video.
ReelTime.tv will offer video downloads in Australia from at least one movie studio, Universal and hopes to counter DRM by offering 3 files for download which each have different uses; one for PC viewing, one for DVD burning and one for PMPs.
This is a bit of a pain in itself, having three files each with their own DRM and different uses is both a confusing and long winded process.
Also the videos are highly priced at about US$26.50. I personally can't see this new video download to own service going anywhere.
