I own a creative MP3 player and one of the great things about it is I can use it as a portable hard drive too. I personally would not buy any PMP if unless I could also use it as a hard drive. Unfortunately Zune owners don't have the portable hard drive option as you can't access the Zune like a USB hard drive, you can only access the videos and music through the Zune software.
That is until now. By modifying your registry files you can force your PC to recognize Zune as a hard drive.
Full instructions can be found here. The modification is pretty easy to do, you just open regedit, edit a few bits of text and you are ready to go.
It seems to me that Microsoft did not want people using the Zune as a portable hard drive, although I'm not too sure why.

1. First, I'd like you to know that this hack originated from www.zuneboards.com
Secondly, there is more to this hack. You can also add, edit, and delete files with this mod: http://zuneboards.com/OFFICIAL-Use-your-Zune-as-an-External-HD-AND-ADD-FILES-t-695-1.html
But with what you posted, you can only view the files.
