I don't know if you remember the beginning of last month when I posted a DirecTV Star Trek advert. When it comes to advertising its service in Uruguay DirecTV are taking a different approach.The video below shows an advert that was recently aired in Uruguay and as you can see it is focused entirely on Football (soccer).
As with many South American nations Uruguay has a strong love for football and DirecTV looks to be trying to hook some subscribers to its HDTV service through the sport.
I wonder if people in Uruguay are having the same complaints about DirecTV as people are having in the US.
1. No, no, no, don't be fooled by the commercial. Directv doesn't have any kind of HD here in the south of the continent. I don't know if there's even a plan for rolling HDTV in South America.
The only thing they're doing is using Dolby 5.1 in some premium channels, but they are not offering decoders with digital sound output (nor optical or coaxial) so we're stuck with stereo.
