The banner ads in the Comcast electronic program guides (EPG) we reported on back in August seemed to have dissapeared after a backlash from upset Comcast subscribers.
According to one of our readers named John, they've once again reared their ugly head - this time in the Tucson area, and he was kind enough to send us a shot of the somewhat obtrusive ad.

While the ads are currently more of the "watch this show at this time" variety, it's not too farfetched to believe that someday we could be seeing advertisements for any number of commercial products. I can't imagine this will please many people since they pay a monthly subscription for the service.
John did his homework as he also found a job posting at the Philly Ad Club website requesting an I-Guide Banner Producer. Chances are if Comcast is hiring I-Guide banner producers, they intend to rollout these banners en masse at some point.
If this actually happens Comcast is going to have some I-rate subscribers on their hands.
Have you seen some variation of these ads on your own Comcast EPG? Do you hate them? Perhaps you're insane and love them.
Let us know in the comments.
Thanks to John for the heads up.

1. Arrghhh.... if these return to my area, I'll be switching once and for all to satellite.
If they were simply banner ads, that would be bad enough -- after all, I'm PAYING for this service, why should I then have to see ads?
But as if that weren't enough of an annoyance, the Comcast banner ads interfere with navigation in the guide. When moving up and down through the list of channels, the banner gets in the way. The user has one less channel shown on the guide, and the banner is selected when you scroll down rather than scrolling the channel guide.
