Pinnacle enters the place-shifting game

PCTV To GoLook out Slingbox, Sony, Hava, Orb... whew, never mind. There's too many of you for everyone to need to look out.

But there's a new kid on the place-shifting block. Pinnacle Systems, which has a respectable track record making TV tuners, plans to release the PCTV To Go later this month for $250.

The PCTV To Go will act as a TV tuner for your PC running Windows Media Center Edition, allowing you to watch and record programming in MPEG-2. It also streams MPEG-4 video through the internet, allowing you to watch live or recorded programming from anywhere in the world. And unlike Slingbox, Pinnacle's PCTV To Go will connect to your home network via WiFi.

If you don't have a Windows MCE You can plug a PCTV To Go unit into cable and satellite boxes, OTA antennas, DVD players, or a PVR.
