Okay class, get out your pens and pencils. I've got a math problem for you.TiVo has gone and raised the prices for its service plans. If you're already locked into a plan, you get to keep paying at your current rate until the plan expires. But if you sign up for new service, here's the deal:
If you pay on a monthly basis, you pay:
- $12.95 per month for a three year plan with a $150 early termination fee
- $14.95 per month for a two year plan, with the same termination fee
- $19.95 for a one year plan, termination fee applies
- For a limited time, you can get three years of service for $299. When the offer ends, the price will rise to $349
- $299 for two years of service
- $199 for one year of service
- $6.95 per month for a three year service plan
- $8.95 a month for a two year service plan
- $13.95 a month for a one year service plan
So, prepaid service plans seem to be cheaper than they were, monthly service plans seem to have gone up, and the boxes are getting cheaper. Now class, does that make TiVo's change in pricing plans a good deal for consumers or not? Feel free to sound off, vent, or celebrate in the comments section.

1. Welllll, so much for waiting for my Tivo!
I've been waiting and waiting for Comcast to get Tivo boxes in my area and NOW I think that dream will go 'poof' with Tivo's new pricing. The boxes are too expensive and now the service is too expensive. My current digital cable PVR is $7 month and PVR service is $7 a month. It has dual tuners and basically works great. I just wanted the better interface and features of Tivo but not at that price.
