Brightcove is a high profile company that has been working with some very big content producers to bring more television and video online.Brightcove provides the infrastructure to allow publishers to easily bring their video to the internet, monetize from it and control its syndication across the web.
It already has deals with big names like the Wall Street Journal, Discovery Channel, New York Times, and MTV.
Now Brightcove has opened itself up to small publishers and will compete for consumers from sites like YouTube, Revver and Blip.tv. Its once corporate looking website now looks a lot more like a video sharing website.
Doing this has opened Brightcove up to the same worrying copyright issues that YouTube and other video sharing sites are facing.
Unlike sites like YouTube the Brightcove system gives small publishers a brilliant way to monetize on their video. For the same reason Lonelygirl15 went to Revver to earn money, other publishers will vote for Brightcove.
Brightcove has a number of advantages to publishers over other internet video outlets:
- Publishers can post video to their own site, and control syndication to other sites and allow viewers to subscribe to updated content.
- It can allow publishers to control advertising offering many ad formats including synced banners, and pre-roll and post roll adverts.
- It can allow publishers to offer a pay per download service.
- It allows advertisers to take 50% of advertising revenue from videos and 70% of revenue from pay per download videos.
However, Brightcove is just packed with more features, has partnerships with a lot of big names including AOL Video, and has more money, and a very reputable team behind them.
