Set up a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device for recorded video

Network Attatched Storage DeviceIf any of you have a hefty PC based home media center, be it using Windows MCE, Elegato EyeTV of some other PVR software, you may have built up a very hefty catalogue of videos.

It's amazing how many videos you can soon build up, and how quickly your hard drive space may disappear.

What's more, if you are anything like me you find it very hard pressing that delete button and just love to hoard all those videos, just in case you want to watch them again.

If you are tech savvy enough to have a media center PC it's most likely you have set up a network in your house so everyone else can view the recorded videos in their own room.

You'll soon find yourself with the problem of disappearing hard drive space and video scattered among all the different PCs in the house. What's the answer? A network attached storage (NAS) device.

This way you can have a central bare bones PC packed with beefy hard drives to keep all your video in one place. Now you don't have to worry that the video you want to watch is on a PC that is turned off.

Here is an nifty guide to setting up your own NAS device. The more thriftier among you could just pack an old PC with some big hard drives.
