When it comes to CableCards, TiVo has had nothing but trouble. The latest setback is trying to get TiVoToGo, Multi-room Viewing, and external hard drive storage on the TiVo Series 3.All three of these features offer great benefits and flexibility to TiVo PVRs but the reason we can't see them on the Series 3 is because CableLabs won't provide CableCard certification due to issues over content owner rights.
TiVo has obviously sacrificed these features the first time round in order to roll the Series 3 out on time. To get these features implemented in the Series 3 TiVo must first create a set of restrictions that satisfies CableLabs.
This just seems crazy as these features already exist in the Series 2 and if there was no need for CableCards they would be available on the Series 3 already. It's just another example of content owners and cable companies unnecessarily restricting the consumer for selfish interests whenever given the chance.

1. Ok fine. Let Tivo and the FCC duke it out. In the mean time can't they just disable the Cablecard slot and turn on the features we all love and use? I was an early Tivo adopter, would not think about watching TV without it and would not consider for a second to upgrade to a series 3 without those features being offered.
