It seems like everyone's got a way to get content from your PC to your TV these days. There's Apple's iTV, Netgear has a new "digital entertainer for streaming media, and as we just pointed out, you can use Hauppauge's MediaMVP.Well, Intel wants in on the action, and is working with DirecTV to allow you to stream media from a PC with Viiv technology to a new DirecTV Plus HD PVR unit.
Viiv is essentially a set of technologies to optimize multimedia playback, but up until now, there hasn't been much that you could do with a Viiv computer that you couldn't do with any old PC.
According to the press release, the DirecTV PVR is the first "digital set-top box with integrated digital media adapter (DMA) functionality verified to work with Intel® Viiv™ technology." It's not entirely clear from the release if that means you will only be able to stream audio and video content from your computer to your set-top box if you have a PC with Viiv.
