According to Zunester (aka David Caulton of the Zune development team), Microsoft's upcoming portable media player will be priced at or below $249.He doesn't come right out and say it, but responding to speculation that the Zune will be priced at $284, Caulton writes "I can't say more than what I've said, but the statements 'The iPod 30GB costs $249' and 'Zune won't be undercut on price' are pretty clear on that point ;)"
When Microsoft announced the Zune last week, many of us surprised at the lack of a price tag, and chalked it up to Microsoft's having been caught off guard by Apple's decision to lower the price of the 30Gb iPod to $249. Caulton's statement seems to fit that explanation pretty well.
