If you want to see Microsoft's strategy for taking on YouTube, you'll probably have to wait a little longer. Soapbox launched today, but only in private beta. Microsoft is accepting requests from users who would like to participate in the beta when it goes public. The plan is to integrate soapbox with Windows Live Spaces, allowing users to add videos to their profiles, control who can see various videos. You'll also be able to watch videos together with other users through an instant messaging program.
So let's see. Sony has a wildly successful video game console. Microsoft wants in on that action.
Apple has a wildly successful mp3 player. Check.
YouTube has a wildly successful video-sharing site. Yeah, we'll take one of those too.
What do you figure the next unoriginal idea from Microsoft will be?

1. Microsoft is a hotbed of energy right now - such a shame that it's all competitive energy and not creative energy.
Do you think that they're even aware of just how desperate they look?
