AOL Opens Video Search to Developers

AOL Search Video LogoAOL has opened its doors to developers for its new video search engine. The company, which seems to have its hands in many pies when it comes to video and TV online, is now encouraging developers to integrate its new video search engine into third party websites.

AOL has released a set of APIs specifically for integrating video search functions into other websites. This will allow search results and search capabilities to appear on other sites, and sometimes in very unique and innovative ways. The APIs can make use of tags, ratings, RSS feeds, advanced keyword searches, and support for video sharing via social networks and blogs.

The video search site is not to be confused with AOL Video. That's for buying video clips and episodes. Nor should it be confused with Uncut Video which is a portal, similar to YouTube, for user generated content.

AOL's video search engine, powered by Truveo video search technology, mixes all the content from sites like YouTube, MSN Video, IFilm, RooTV, iFilm and more into one single place. It allows users to search by keyword and organize by rating, date, category, channel and more.
