As we reported earlier today, Wal-Mart will be selling Microsoft's Zune media player.
What we failed to mention is that Wal-Mart has also decided to spill the beans on the super-secret price tag for the device. At some point today, Wal-Mart posted the price as $284, as our eagle-eyed compadres at Engadget discovered. Wal-Mart seems to be taking that price down, as its no longer listed on the product page, but you can still (for a few minutes at least), catch the price by checking out the Mart's MP3 player page.
This is all subject to change, of course. We all thought Microsoft was going to announce a price when they officially announced the product last week. But they may have held off after Apple announced a price drop for its iPods this week, which could force Microsoft to rethink its pricing strategy.
So while a Wal-Mart price of $284 indicates that Microsoft may have been planning a $289 or $299 launch price, that could change in the coming weeks or months before the Zune begins to ship.

1. Well, we have approximate price... But price is nothing without release. And when is release?
