Nero is probably best known for its popular CD/DVD creation software. The company is looking to separate itself from competitors like Roxio with some of the enhancements it has planned for its Nero 7 digital media software suite when a major update is released later this month.
TV becomes an integral part of the package thanks to an integrated TV server built into the Nero MediaHome application. This server gives users the option to stream live TV to an Xbox 360 for playback via a Windows Media Center Edition PC.
In addition, users will be able to efficiently transfer audio and video files to mobile phones, PSPs, iPods, and a variety of other PMPs.
New PVR Related Features Include:
- Receive analogue as well as all digital formats and record those on your hard drive
- Support for TV tuner cards (including DVB-T, -S, -C)
- Basic EPG (Electronic Program Guide) support
- Schedule your recording based on EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
- Manually record TV signal to hard drive
- Capture video from any source: TV cards, graphic cards, camcorder, VCR, webcam (composite/S-video)
- Blu-ray and HD DVD data recording
While the PVR functions aren't exactly revolutionary, they are a nice bonus when added along to a software package you probably intend to purchase anyhow.
While Roxio has a third-party solution for burning recorded shows using the SnapStream Beyond TV PVR Kit and Easy Media Creator, Nero is taking the all-in-one approach which should simplify the process and ultimately be appreciated by consumers.

1. Wow, that's interesting. Wonder if they built the sw themselves or if they're licensing it. I also wonder if they'll release it with/for the US version at some point?
