42. All, as far as the Comcast thing goes, I think they are going to offer the ability to download 'Tivo' software to the crappy Moto boxes. I don't know what version or what features it will have. In an ideal world, it will be Series 3 software but, I have my doubts. I also don't know when this will happen, and I happen to work for Comcast so, if anyone else knows more, spill the beans.

43. Now how about some shots of the inside?

44. I'm not psyched about spending $799 on this, but my Comcast Motorola box has driven me near the brink of insanity. My TV viewing has probably dropped by 30% since the Comcast box arrived because I can't stand to use the damn thing.
Plus, the home media features Tivo has are really nice.

45. Cableric - are you sure that Comcast is legally required to *have* firewire ports on their boxes? I don't think so. What they (and other cable providers) are required to do is *enable* use/access to firewire ports, if they are on the unit. When Comcast first started shipping the 6412 DVR, it had non-functional firewire ports. Comcast was forced to push a firmware update that enabled the ports and allowed consumer use of them.

46. That "external storage" jack looks like ESATA to me. It means that you can plug in a SATA drive (up to 750GB these days), or even better, a SATA port multiplier card/chassis with 4 (Marvell) or 5 (Silicon Image) SATA drives for up to 5 TB of storage next year. Pretty sweet if it's ESATA.

47. Are the USB ports active?

48. Wouldn't it be more then $800 + $12.95/mo? After all, you have to rent 2 cablecards from your cable provider right?
I'd love to have this thing... but not at that price. For one I wouldn't be able to get VOD anymore right?

49. My Dish HD DVR is still better, get with the times TiVo. I don't want to have to buy a DVR (especially at $799!) for every room. Dish DVR = 2 tuners, 2 unique outputs in dual mode. Why is Dish the only DVR that does that yet?
Yes...I know Dish is going to have to pay TiVo through the nose for copying their technology...but they did at least make it better!!!!

50. Yeah I wnat one, but the amount of HD content need to increase alot more for me to justify 800 smackers + $12.95 / mo.

52. Are they going to give buyers the same 90 day parts warantee? My series 2 Tivo HDD went out 4 months after I bought it, and I had to pay Tivo 50 bucks to replace the damn thing. I don't want the same thing to happen with the Series 3.

53. Does it have Tivo To Go? Does Tivo to go work with HD content?

54. God. For $800 I'll stick with this POS Comcast box and wait. I MISS my TiVo! I MISS the interface. I MISS having a show recorded not have hiccups in video and sound. God this Comcast box SUCKS at recording. It's so flakey. Crappy. Horrible! I WANT A TIVO INTERFACE!
Will we get to have a replacement TiVo remote to use with the Comcast boxes when the TiVo software comes? I HATE this remote.

55. So, how does non HD content look on the thing?

56. well it's something new but for 799? i won't. i actually work for charter and the motorola boxs we use are owned by a company called diego http://www.digeo.com and they have some guts. One thing i wanted everyone to know and that is cablecards SUCK i know i've installed tons of them and there NOT allways compatible with everything. so if the s3 starts rejecting the card you s.o.l. and THATS the truth.

57. The UK DVRs we have here in Europe are rubbish compared to TiVo. I would gladly pay $5000 USD if a UK version of the series 3 was available! We are stuck with series one at the moment :(

58. 1. $800 is list price, no one pays (or should) pay that.
2. Is the delay because of some issue with a provider (cable or satelitte).
3. This doesn't have to be connected to a phone line (not what they say, but what is the actual case)?

59. Is there finally going to be real surround sound. I can,t believe anyone buys a DVR that does not include that.

60. #20: The "MSRP" of Tivo units, like Apple products, is usually what retailers are forced to stick with. Many of them do use extra MIR besides the standard Tivo "activation" rebate to help ease the cost, but don't be too surprised when 799 is exactly what you have to fork up to take one of these puppies home. This is the same original cost of the DirecTV HD DVR before rebate, which had the Tivo software, so this price is no shocker what-so-ever.

41. I have several problems with the Series 3:
-- Does anyone besides me find that it looks boring and ugly? Where's that groovy newage design? Glad they made it 17in. wide, but it looks like a bloated samsung to me.
-- For that outrageous amount of $$$, and that amount of ugliness, they could have thrown a friggin' upconverting DVD player into the box, so we could at least get rid of another component -- that would make it worthwhile, right?
Man, I think I'll hold off until it's more streamlined, less ugly, and lets me lose my DVD player. Not worth it.
