1. I'd much rather pay something like $30-$40 a month for the service and be locked into a 5 year plan than pay $800 for the box itself.

2. As a past TiVo Series 2 owner and now an Explorer 8300HD DVR user, I know there is no comparison. The hardware and software engineers for TiVo have exceeded my needs. I love the user interface including the sounds TiVo makes with the press of a button. Many people I've talked to use the name TiVo interchangeably with a normal PVR. With the frustration I've had and the lack of features my Explorer 8300HD DVR has, I quickly set them straight. "Just because it's a DVR doesn't mean it's a TiVo."

I've read about TiVo series 3 coming out soon with a speculated price tag of $800. I hope the steep price will turn out to be nothing more than an exaggerated rumor. Although I can afford the speculated price, there's no way I'll even try to justify spending $800 for this type of convenience. It looks like I'll have to wait until October for the Series 3 price to be released before I make a decision on going with a satellite TV providers new DVR (HR-20) or the TiVo series 3.
