Okay, so here's the deal: you're a network executive for a network that isn't actually on the air yet. You've got hit shows like Veronica Mars and Everybody Hates Chris to promote, but you're not even sure if audiences know what channel they're on. What do you do?Apparently you make them available on-line for free a week before their premiere dates. The CW announced a deal today to release Veronica Mars, Everybody Hates Chris, and the new show Runaway on MSN.com a week before their broadcast premieres in late September and early October.
Will this build name recognition for the new network that has risen out of the ashes of UPN and WB? Who knows. But since the target audience for these shows tends to skew young, reaching them on the internet is never a bad idea.
In related news, TiVo has this tip for making sure you don't miss out on the fall premieres of programs making the leap from UPN and WB to the CW. Create wish lists for the complete titles of programs, with quotation marks, such as "Everybody Hates Chris." That way, whatever channel the show airs on, you'll be able to record it. Once you ensure that your season pass is up to date, you can delete the wish list.
Anyone want to share tips on how to do this with non-TiVo PVRs?

Being a ReplayTV fan, here's how you can do the same with the now-discontinued TiVo competitor: use "Find Shows" to search for the show title you're looking for, and then create a Theme Channel based on that search. Shows with titles matching that search string should now be recorded regardless of the channel they are broadcast on.
