Our friends at hdbeat.com are reporting that a reliable source Todd from Best Buy says the TiVo Series 3 will be in stock and presumably, available for purchase September 17th, 2006 for the low, low price of $799. I called a few Best Buys around my neck of the woods to get the scoop.
Here's what they had to say:
Best Buy #1 says the TiVo Series 3 isn't coming up in their system therefore they have no release date to give me.
Best Buy #2 says it will be available around October.
And my personal favorite:
Best Buy #3 says the TiVo Series 3 is available for purchase right now. They say I can physically walk into the store and purchase it. I'm insistent that they must be thinking of the TiVo Series 2 as they quote me a price of $59 with rebate or $249.99 without. They still insist they mean the Series 3. I leave it at that. Apparently, the local Best Buy's HR department does not test to ensure new hires have basic number comprehension.
3 Best Buys within 20 miles of each other - 3 different responses. Todd may have access to a special system that has offered him this exclusive information, but local Best Buys around my part don't seem to have any concrete information on it ,which seems odd since the "release date" is less than 20 days away. I hope the rumor is true but will wait for confirmation from another source.
Has anyone heard anything that might corroborate this rumor?
1. POrtland OR Best Buy told me by phone the TiVo website says Sept. 17th release. No price yet. I could not find it myself on the website.
