Okay, so maybe they're not technically newlyweds since Cox is already an equity investor in Tivo, but perhaps we can consider this the first consummation of their marriage.
It's no secret TiVo was in the dumps last year when the relationship between Tivo and DirecTV took a turn for the worse. TiVo has been scrambling around like mad searching for new partners, and today it was announced they found an ally in Cox Communications.
From the Press Release:
"Under the terms of the agreement, TiVo will customize its cable software for deployment on compatible Cox DVR set-top-boxes. TiVo's downloadable software will allow Cox to deliver the TiVo® service in Cox subscriber homes without replacing existing DVR boxes, and without an install appointment. In this way, current Cox DVR customers who wish to enjoy the award-winning TiVo service, can quickly and easily add the benefits of TiVo to their DVR subscription.
Cox Digital Cable customers with DVR service who choose to add TiVo to their Cox subscription will enjoy the renowned TiVo user interface as well as new innovations that link the capabilities enabled by Cox's broadband network like On DEMAND and High Definition service, with exclusive TiVo features like Season Pass(TM) recordings, WishList® searches and the recently announced TiVo KidZone"
One of the major gripes you hear about cable PVRs is the unintuitive user interface. With the fourth-largest cable television provider allowing subscribers to select Tivo's beloved software instead, this gripe could be a thing of the past for a lot of cable customers.
The deal is expected take effect in some Cox markets the first half of 2007.

1. Meanwhile still no news in regards to the similar deal they struck a bit back with Comcast...
