Earl Bonovich, Super Moderator at dbstalk.com, was able to get his hands on the Direct TV HD-DVR (HR20-700) reported to be released in Los Angeles at the end of this month.
He summarizes the HR20 features as follows:
- High Definition TV Output (via HDMI and Component)
- 2 Sets of RCA (Red/White/Yellow Outputs) - 1 S-Video
- 1 Optical Digital Output
- Dual SAT Tuners
- Dual ATSC Tuners (functionality is disabled at this time, see notes later in the review)
- Wired RJ-45 Ethernet Port
- External SATA Connection
- 300 GB SATA Internal Hard Drive
- RF Remote Compatible with the Included RC24, and the soon to be released RC32RF
Estimated Recording Space (Not a cumulative value)
- 30 Hours of MPEG-2 (OTA) HD
- 50 Hours of MPEG-4 HD
- 200 Hours of Standard Definition (SD)
Earl appears to have had the PVR for the last 2 weeks and has put together an extensive review complete with pictures, video, and detailed information about the unit and its interface.
Overall, the unit sounds pretty impressive. Will it be enough to convert DirecTV HD Tivo diehards? Only time will tell, but I'll guess no. Tivo fans are hardcore.

1. Take what he says with a grain of salt.
Refuses tosay the sofware version,
Forgets tell you no dual live bffers so directv can push vod stuff any time of day
also does not mention is a beta tester, beholding to directv.
so be careful what belive on what is said.
not a personal attack, just observation from what is said about recivers by him.
