Control your Windows Media Center with your cell phone

UGuideHave you ever been out buying flowers for your wife to celebrate your anniversary, only to realize you forgot to schedule your PVR to record the season premier of Battlestar Galactica? If you're like most PVR Wire readers, I'm guessing you dropped the flowers on the sidewalk and ran home to reprogram your box. Or maybe that's just me.

Anyway, Gist Communications is beta testing a new application called UGuide, that will let you check TV listings and schedule recordings on your MCE machine via your mobile phone. All you need is a cell phone with a data plan and Java support.

What you get:
  • Browse or search your TV listings
  • Get recommendations for shows that match your viewing habits
  • Schedule recordings remotely
According to the company's FAQ, while the program only works with MCE, there are plans to support all commercially available PVRs in the future. UGuide is free to use during the public beta. I couldn't find any information on whether it would remain free after it's officially launched.
