20th Century Fox enters the video download game

20th Century FoxFox News Corp. plans to begin selling full-length movies on-line, including X-men: The Last Stand and TV shows, including 24. The service is set to go live in October, with movies selling for $19.99 and TV episodes for $1.99.

News Corp. owns several popular internet sites, including MySpace and IGN. At first, the videos will be available through IGN's Direct2Drive.com site, which is already set up for on-line video game sales. The company plans to expand its offering to MySpace in the future.

Fox currently makes videos available through CinemaNow and Movielink. This is the company's first foray into setting up its own movie distribution network. The downloaded films will be available to copy to portable devices that support Windows' Media -- which probably means PlaysForSure.
