After several delays, DirecTV is set to unleash their much anticipated HD PVR in the Los Angeles area at the end of this month. A nationwide rollout will occur in the weeks following. Thanks to DirecTV giving Tivo the old Italy and electing to go with NDS Group for future PVR needs, this new unit will effectively replace the DirecTV HD Tivo users are constantly ranting and raving about all over the web.
Although DirecTV will continue to support the DirecTV HD Tivo units they'll do so only half-heartedly via the occasional update. Unfortunately, the DirecTV HD Tivo units will be incapable of viewing or recording DirecTV's new MPEG-4 HD channels scheduled to be released later this year.
Ultimately, if you're a big fan of Tivo you're not a big fan of DirecTV at the moment since they stuck a big old knife in Tivo's back. How could they do that to such a cute little mascot?
