RadioShack has begun selling Series 2 Dual Tuner Tivos and Tivo branded wireless G adapters in their 3000 brick and mortars across the country.There's nothing too exciting here except, in the event you're unable to find a Tivo at Target, Circuit City, CompUSA, ABT Electronics, Best Buy, Fry's or Ultimate Electronics you now know that you can run to the local RadioShack and try to pick one up there as well.
This recent deal between Tivo and RadioShack is a good partnership for both companies. Tivo has a new partner with great market penetration which should allow its product to be seen by a broader portion of the population.
RadioShack is in the midst of a brand shift and will begin focusing on brand name consumer items and a product as revered as Tivo is a great place to start.
I haven't actually seen a Tivo in a RadioShack yet, so I'm not entirely sure on the setup, but both companies would be remiss if they didn't pounce on the opportunity to give consumers some hands on experience with an in-store unit. With PVRs, cost is typically the item that most deters ownership.
However, if a consumer could test drive the technology I'm convinced they'd wonder how they lived so long without one.
I picture a Tivo and a wireless G adapter hooked up to an LCD similar to the way you see a videogame kiosks in Gamestop.
There could be a PC in close vicinity running a Tivo to Go sever and an educated sales associate could show how easily content can be pushed from PC to Tivo and vice versa. With Tivo offering a $150 rebate with activation there's no way this wouldn't sell units.
1. I was in a Radio Shack last night here in Northern California and noticed the TiVo Wireless Adapter behind the counter, which struck me as odd. Now I know why it was there. Thanks PVR Wire.
