Is Google working on a PVR?

Google PVR
Thomas Hawk has started one of those juicy rumours that I love (ie. the kind based purely on supposition, but which can often grow legs and walk), so I'm adding to the debate here (mostly paraphrasing Thomas):

He reckons Google might be developing some kind of PVR, and bases it on the buzz of speculation that Google has been talking to TiVo (which both parties deny). There's also speculation from Garret Rogers about the GoogleTV and GoogleHDTV domain names and a Google job opening for a project manager on GoogleTV that has subsequently vanished, and new jobs have appeared looking for multiple software developers in the TV space.

We also have recent rumours that Google is working on deals for more film and TV dowloads, and the MTV partnership adds to the notion that Google are getting more serious about video.

Then we have San Francisco-based OpenTV announcing that their CTO Vincent Dureau is leaving to work for Google.

Does this mean Google is working on a hardware PVR? Or maybe even PVR software?

Who knows -- it's all idle speculation -- but it's juicy all the same, isn't it?
