Yahoo launches free PVR software

As predicted here on PVR Wire just over a week ago when Yahoo announced the purchase of Meedio, the portal/search engine company has now released Yahoo Go TV Beta for free.

Go TV is a PC-based PVR application that integrates with media already stored on your PC or with any built-in tuner hardware, much in the same way as Windows Media Center Edition, which could mean some tough opposition for Microsoft, given the freeness of the app.

Dave Zatz has been playing about with the software and has published several screengrabs of it in action.

1. I has used this program for an hour and then erase it. It's too buggy and slowly. And it integrates very deep in system. Better use native software for tuners. I'm speaking about PC's tuners... What about hardware I don't know

2. Mikky, have you did you ever use Meedio before it was bought by Yahoo!? If so, has it actually gotten worse since the acquisition?

3. I totally agree to Mikky. The software is too raw. Y! has to improve it first.

4. Well, it is still early days and I am sure Yahoo will make the software better in the coming days. So, I am not frustrated. If you remember Yahoo messenger in 2001, you could hardly talk with it but now Yahoo messenger has so good quality audio and video facilities.

5. I tried it about 15 minutes and then removed it. I used it with a ATI HDTV Wonder and the video and audio was so jerky and pixelated, it was un-viewable. If I used the ATI software or BeyondTV 4, it works fine.

6. This pvr software sucks. Worse I've seen yet. GB-PVR or MythTV blows Yahoo's junk away, and they are both free!
