The front page of Meedio's website is
displaying an announcement to the effect that they have sold up shop to Yahoo!Earlier this year, Yahoo! announced Yahoo! Go TV, a PC-based PVR application which has never been made public.
It seems that Meedio was the final part of the jigsaw, which could now provide some very serious opposition to Microsoft's Windows Media Center Edition if it's made freely available on the Yahoo! website.

1. I didn't see any comments in announcement that eluded to a free version, but it sure would be interesting if they did have one.
On the one hand, it would probably get a lot of people into the PVR/DVR scene, but at what cost? I can't imagine a free version shipping without some sort of advertising. The true DIY enthusiasts will most likely still pay for MS MCE if it comes down to a matter of advertising.
