3. Calling Thomas Hawk's rant a "most excellent blog" has lost any respect I may have had for this site. Judgment is everything, and yours is seriously lacking. I haven't read much here, but that comment alone lets me know what type of content I can expect to read here, and therefore won't sully my mind by reading anymore here.

4. I believe, that the biggest features are that Series 3 will have dual tuners and be CableCARD and HDTV ready.

5. TiVo, in my opinion, is already playing catch-up. They are behind on standalone HD support and dual+ tuner support. I would also say that they are going to loose the race on the PC software side of things. Beyond TV 4 is really not bad at all and many people have asked TiVo to provide a PC based version of their software that could complement their boxes. TiVoToGo is not it. The only hint as to their desktop abilities is the feature to send video back to TiVo. In fact, I am using Beyond TV 4 to record shows that can in turn be transferred/viewed on my TiVo. It is actually not bad at all. No transcoding needed.

6. they do plan to have CableCARD 2 or MultiStream CableCard support. This is more than Windows Vista is planning to support...Now, which cable companies will be offering this?

7. This may be the TiVo that gets me to ditch DirecTV. Not that I've had any complaints with the DirecTV service directly, but turning their back on TiVo in favor of their own crappy DVR means people like me get left behind on all these snazzy new features like TiVoToGo, HME, and all that fun stuff. (Not that I'd get them anyway, given that I'm still using S1.)

I wonder if I'll need to make any MFS Tools changes to support S3.

8. Actually no one has said the Series 3 will be CableCARD 2.0 compliant. All that has been said is that they will support multi-stream cards, which are actually part of a suplimentary standard of CableCARD 1.0. In fact it is highly unlikely they will be CC2.0 compliant as that would require OCAP, which would basically take away everything that makes a TiVo a TiVo.
