A few weeks ago, Thomas Hawk criticized TiVo's half-hearted attempts
at corporate blogging on his most excellent, Digital Connection blog, which caught the attention of E. Stephen Mack,
the director of service operations at TiVo. Mr Mack then invited Thomas out for lunch, and agreed to an interview (Stephen brought along his son Sammy, which was nice).
So far, Thomas can tell us that Series 3 is still undergoing some private beta testing, with no word on a release schedule. Nothing on additional CableCARD support, but some news on plug-in development to extend the TiVo for RSS or other web-based applets.
The important thing here is that TiVo isn't trying to hide anything, but fans will be keen to find out more about a release date for Series 3, especially with HD kicking in big-style in 2006. The last thing TiVo wants is to be playing catch up.

1. If they could get their act together, they'd make it availble before the World Cup, which will be braodcast in HD by ESPN. Or at least, they couldn't let me in on the private beta!
