Most people prefer to purchase off-the-shelf or
out-of-the-box solutions for their domestic technology, mostly because it's too much hassle to figure out the quirks
and intricacies of modern computer equipment. However, sometimes the solutions on offer in the average high street
electronics store simply won't cut the mustard for what you require. Tom Lynema of Linux.com stores most of his digital media on a home Linux server, but most digital media players available on the market don't support Linux connection protocols, so he decided to build his own Linux home media center.
It's not exactly a how-to, but it gives a decent overview of the type of kit and software he used to build his LHMC, in addition to some of the configuration issues he encountered along the way.
