While everyone else is crowing over the release of Apple's new iPod (with video!), PVR Wire is still drumming its fingers awaiting the PVR-capable iPod, which may not arrive any time soon. From a PVR perspective, there's really nothing to discuss, as it doesn't have any video inputs or recording capabilities, so here are the facts, as I see them:
The new iPod, available in black or white options, can playback video, but it's primarily a music device - a bit like most modern cellphones. It's pretty much the same size as the current model, only a bit thinner. The screen is a 320 x 240 pixel 2.5" display with 260,000 colors (but no widescreen). The battery should be good for up to 20 hours of music - but only three hours if you plan to watch video. It supports playback of H.264 and MPEG4 at 30 fps, has TV out, and will be available in 30 GB and 60 GB versions. The 30 GB version will hold up to 75 hours of video and retail for $299, while the 60 GB version will hold 150 hours of video and sell for $399. Music videos and TV shows on offer at the iTunes Music Store will only be available to customers in the U.S. for the time being.
And here's the crunch folks - that's 75 or 150 hours of video at a resolution of just 320 x 240, and for only three hours at a time before you need a recharge -- 22 minutes short of the running time for Apocalypse Now: Redux.

1. You're missing one kinda important part of the evolution here...
Itunes is "selling" ABC TV episodes for $1.99 each including LOST and desperate housewives...

This Slashdot Comment
It's a small baby step, but possibly an important one.
