When you get past the first page of preamble, Joseph Wana's review of the Slingbox over at The Street.com provides a critical analysis of the potential impact of the video-over-the-Internet network device. While he's not entirely convinced that the market is ready to embrace the Slingbox just yet, he's certain it'll pick up, and he is very impressed by the capabilities of the unit, especially the ability to remotely schedule new shows to record on his TiVo.
The most important quote of the review, for me, was this one:
"The picture and sound being streamed from my television at home to my laptop came across effortlessly. While the image was not perfect, it was the same as I would expect from any Internet video stream."

SlingStream provides the best possible video experience by continuously monitoring the connection speed and dynamically adjusting the video compression ratios to match your available network bandwidth."""
The fact that this is proprietary kills it immediately for me. You have to rely on them releasing clients.
