Could Google buy TiVo?

googleSpeculation is afoot again that Google may use some of its proceedings from an upcoming $4 billion stock sale to purchase TiVo and possibly other companies. Google buying TiVo is not a new issue, but it's fresh now that Google has some extra cash to spend and is specifically suggesting that acquisitions could be part of the uses of the money.

Merrill Lynch analyst Lauren Rich Fine has suggested that the $4 billion could be used to purchase a Chinese company, TiVo or search company Infospace. I don't quite see the synergy between Google and TiVo, except for Google's current video experiment, but it still could be an exciting combination.

What do you think? Is TiVo on Google's acquisition radar?
