It's not really news, but it does make it official: DirecTV will stop marketing TiVo's PVRs later this year, replacing them with NDS Group Plc technology, which is owned by DirecTV investor News Corp. The word came Wednesday during Reuters Telecommunications, Cable and Satellite Summit in New York City. "The product we will market is our product," DirecTV Chief Executive Chase Carey said. However, he suggested that customers can still get TiVo if they ask.
The NDS PVRs have high-capacity hard drives that store frequently watched programs, creating an almost video-on-demand experience for users.

1. First Off I would like to say I love Direct TV it is so much better than cable, or at least it was better. I have two TIVO DVR receivers I love them they are great. My contract is up so I see that Direct TV is giving a free DVR to New customers I called them up and asked if I could get the same deal they gave me a hard time but did end up giving me a DVR for free. The only hitch was I would have to sign up for two years instead of one year. I have had DirecTv for 3 years now so I figured that was ok.
They brought the new DVR , it is a New style DVR+ box I Hate it is almost Impossible to get a season pass for your favorite shows , just to get to the menu it take three clicks of the remote , then to record something it takes several steps the new box’s are a step backwards for DVR technology . Then there is the BRIGHT blue light on the box my bedroom looks like Las Vegas or something they told me to hold the two arrows and it would dim and go out but that didn’t work .
Now I know why thy make you sign a 2 year contract they are selling junk and you will be stuck with it for two years so beware of the new DVR+ box.
By the way DIRECTV told me there was nothing they could do for me and I was stuck with it they would not switch it out with the better style box.
