Galleon media server released

GalleonThe first full release of a new open-source media server for TiVo is now available. Galleon 1.0 runs on your computer and organizes content so it can be viewed on your TiVo. It recently won the Most Creative Application award in the TiVo Developer Challenge.

I've had difficulty running Galleon during its beta stage. But the developer says this version has a Windows installation wizard that will install Galleon as a service. Hopefully, that makes it easier to run. I kept getting errors about the server not starting when I ran the beta versions.

Among Galleon's features:
  • Playing MP3 files using your favorite Winamp skins.
  • Viewing your photo collection using many slideshow effects.
  • Viewing information about each MP3 file such as album covers, lyrics and Web images of your favorite artists.
  • Listening to online streaming radio stations including Shoutcast stations.
  • Organizing your media files in many ways.
  • Playing your favorite playlists, including iTunes playlists.
  • Viewing local weather forecasts and alerts.
  • Viewing Internet webcams.
  • Reading your e-mail.
  • Reading your favorite RSS feeds.
