PC World takes a pretty comprehensive look at various PVRs, from TiVo to Windows Media Center to some options like Moxi and Slingbox that I hadn't heard of before now.

Notably, the author had problems with the Windows Media Center. "TV and PC technologies just don't merge well," writes Lincoln Spector. "Some people may get them going without trouble, but you can't yet count on being that lucky."
Moxi sounds pretty cool, with the ability to stream news and weather in a ticker format on the screen's bottom. Overall, though, Spector is thumbs down on any PVR without program guides or search capabilities.
In other words, Spector likes the TiVo and isn't ready to jump to anything new.
"After trying the alternatives, I'm sticking with the DirecTV TiVo," Spector writes. "For me, the convenience of a DVR/set-top box combination outweighs the optional features you can get with other DVRs."

1. Moxi is decent, I know someone who coded for the project. But since they were bought out by Digeo they basically moved away from making consumer products completely and they've focused exclusively on licensing the technology. There are some Motorola cable boxes that use the Moxi software, but that's it. And they aren't being widely used.
